It is a moped loan scheme for students,
aged 16–19 only, who have a firm offer of
full time further education that they are
unable to reach by public transport.
The scheme is currently operating in a pilot
area for students attending East Devon
College, South Devon College, Bicton
College and Holsworthy Skills Centre. This
will operate on a trail basis for the 2009–10
academic year and may be extended if
successful and if further funding is
available.
You can travel to any area, up to 48 miles
round trip from your home to your place of
education.
Loans are initially for one academic year.
The mopeds are serviced by Devon Wheels 2 work mobile workshop.
Yes. You must have either a provisional or
full licence to ride a moped. Licence
application forms are available from your
local post office or may be ordered online
from www.direct.gov.uk.
Yes. All new riders on a provisional licence
and all new car drivers with a full licence
will need to hold a certificate of
‘Compulsory Basic Training’ (CBT) before
being allowed to take to the road on a
moped. The CBT is a one day course which
includes a classroom discussion, off road and on road tuition and is held at a local
approved training centre. The cost of this
will be met by Devon wheels 2 learn.
In addition, each
rider will be
required to
attend a Safety
Seminar held at
the college after
successfully
completing CBT.
The scheme
provides all riders
with a safety
helmet, padded
jacket, reflective tabard and gloves, free of
charge. Provided you complete the scheme,
you may keep these items at the end of the
loan, should you wish to do so.
Yes. All riders are asked to sign our ‘Moped
Loan Terms and Conditions’ and as a legal
document, all those riders under aged 18,
will need their parent(s) or guardian(s) to
act as a guarantor.
